Getting Started
Step 1: Contact The Bankruptcy Group of Florida for your FREE initial consultation.
After scheduling your consultation appointment, you then need to complete the client intake form (click to get pdf). Please be as specific and thorough as possible. In order to properly advise you, we need to know everything that pertains to your current state of financial affairs. One omission can change things greatly and possibly result in your case being discharged prematurely so please be very detailed.
During your initial consultation, your attorney will analyze your case and provide immediate feedback as to what your options are under the Bankruptcy Code. This initial meeting should not take more than an hour. You should bring a current credit report to this meeting if possible, and copies of any bills and other outstanding debts. Based on the information provided, your attorney will advise which chapter of the Bankruptcy Code to file for your particular situation and provide you with a preliminary estimate of how much you can expect to pay for your bankruptcy. After your attorney has provided this feedback, you will be asked to collect additional documents needed to file your bankruptcy petition.
Step 2: Collect your paperwork.
By this point, the intake questionaire has helped you identify all your sources of income, your monthly living expenses, and any major financial transactions undertaken by you in the last two years. It will also list all secured and unsecured debts including credit card accounts, loans, medical bills, student loans, etc., and any and all assets you have in the form of real estate and personal property. Now we need all of the supporting documentation for this information. Please download our Document Checklist (click for pdf) and gather all of the required documents. Once you have everything ready, contact us and we will arrange to obtain your documents. Your attorney will then prepare your bankruptcy petition for your review and signature. It can take anywhere from one to two weeks for preparation of your petition. Due to the uniqueness of each case, it is very common for us to have a few more questions or to need some more documents prior to completing your petition.
Step 3: Review your petition.
Our office will contact you as soon as your bankruptcy petition is ready for review. We will usually email a copy of your petition to you so that you can review it for accuracy and identify any changes that may need to be made. Once we finalize the petition, we will set an appointment for you to execute your documents. We will then file your case and keep you informed throughout the process.
